On May 18th 2004 Oliver Springs High School held its graduation ceremony.  This was the year that Clayton would have graduated and the senior class placed an empty chair off to the side of all the others, draped with Clayton’s cap and gown, and two yellow roses that later were presented to Clayton’s mother.

During the ceremony Clayton’s mother presented the 1st annual Clayton Smith Memorial Character Counts Scholarship 2004 to Mr. Adam Lamb. The 2005 recipient was Mr. Adam Davis and the 2006 recipient was Miss Deana Conrad. It was an honor to Clayton's Family to help these deserving students that knew and went to school with Clayton to further their education in his memory.
